The Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships

The Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships

The Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships is separate from BYU's Scholarship office.  Our mission is to help students make the most of their educational experience by helping them find and apply for external scholarships, as well as research opportunities, summer programs, and internships.

Meet our Staff:

Carolyn Tuitupou, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education, has responsibility for undergraduate thesis preparation, honors thesis funding, undergraduate research, external prestigious scholarships and fellowships, and Undergraduate Education budget.

Dean Tuitupou earned her B.A. in English (cum laude) from Brigham Young University-Hawaii and a Master's of Public Administration (High Honors) from BYU-Provo.  She taught English in Tonga for ten years: one year at Neiafu Middle School, eight years at Liahona High School, and one year as principal of Nauvoo Middle School.  Dean Tuitupou, her husband, and seven children moved to Utah in 1988, and she has worked at BYU ever since.  She has taught in the Honors Program, has served on numerous University and national organization committees, and has given numerous presentations at national honors conferences.

She loves to help students, and her door is always open for walk-in appointments.  She has a great wealth of knowledge and has a network of people she knows on campus, so it's hard to find a question she can't answer.  Feel free to put her knowledge to the test.

Jennifer Smith hails from Kent, Washington and is truly a girl of the Northwest. She is majoring in French with a minor in Computers and Humanities. She has worked in the Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships for almost two years. Her work in the office deals mainly with organization and computers, although the most gratifying part of her job is seeing students fulfill their dreams with the help of a scholarship or fellowship.

Kelsey Smith was born in Austin, Texas but grew up in Guyana, Jordan, Peru, Mexico and      Venezuela. She is majoring in English with minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies. Kelsey was hired to work for the Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships in December 2008 and since then has worked hard to improve her computer skills and increase her scholarship knowledge. Besides gaining new skills, she enjoys the organizational and editing aspects of her job as well as the opportunities to work with fellow students.

Jon Fults
i
s proud to call Texas home, but is not your typical Texan. He was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and lived there until going to BYU. He took time to serve as a missionary in the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission, and has since returned to his studies. He is majoring in Finance and Economics. He hopes to work in the financial markets and eventually teach at the university level. He was hired to work for the Office of Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships in December 2008. Jon says, “The most satisfying part of my job is when I work with students and help them plan and achieve their dreams.”
