Hertz Foundation Fellowship
Description: The Hertz Foundation Fellowship is a private foundation that provides fellowships tenable at three dozen of the nation's finest universities for graduate work leading to a Ph.D. degree in applications of the physical sciences.
Qualifications: Applicants must be students of the applied physical sciences who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students must be willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the U.S. during national emergency. Fellows are screened for the following qualities: exceptional intelligence and creativity, excellent technical education, orientation and commitment to the application of the physical sciences, extraordinary accomplishment in technical or related professional studies, features of temperament and character conducive to high attainment as a technical professional, appropriate moral and ethical values, and leverage (the difference the award will make in the student's research).
Amount: Pays for all tuition and fees plus a personal stipend of $25,000.
Application Process: In addition to the application form, the following are required: four brief essays, a reference report, previous research, GRE scores, transcripts, and three recommendations.
