Jacob K Javits
Description: The program provides financial assistance to students of superior academic ability. Students are selected who have demonstrated academic achievement, exceptional promise, and financial need to undertake study leading to a doctoral or master's degree (if a master's is the terminal degree in that selected field). Fellowships are awarded in the fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Qualifications: Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens or nationals, permanent residents of the U.S., or citizens of any one of the Freely Associated States. Students must demonstrate financial need. Fellowships can be offered to individuals who at the time of application have not yet completed their first full year of doctoral program or a master's degree program (terminal degree for the field of study) and those who are entering graduate school for the first time in the next academic year. Applicants must be accepted to or currently attending one of the specified programs in an eligible field.
Amount: The fellowship consists of an institutional payment (in lieu of all tuition and fees) and a stipend
Application Process: Panels of experts appointed by the Javits Fellowship Board select fellows according to criteria established by the Board. A complete application includes GRE scores. However, students must also demonstrate financial need by filling out the FAFSA form
