Gates-Cambridge

Description: The Gates Cambridge Scholarship was established in hopes of creating a network of future leaders from around the world who will bring new vision and commitment to improving the lives of citizens in their respective countries. Students who gain admission to the University of Cambridge pursue one of the following courses of study: a second Bachelor's degree, one-year postgraduate courses, or research leading to a Ph.D.
Qualifications: Applicants from every country are eligible to apply except those from the U.K. Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree prior to the set deadline. Students should be under the age of 30 and have outstanding qualifications.
Amount: The scholarship covers University and College fees at applicable rates, a maintenance allowance, a discretionary allowance, airfare
Length: Applicants may apply for graduate study or study for a second Bachelor's Degree.
Application Process: Gates-Cambridge Instructions: Students must first gain admission to the University of Cambridge and to a constituent College and then apply for the Gates Scholarship. Students are expected to have excellent transcripts showing sustained academic achievement, two references, and a degree certificate or diploma. Applicants are also encouraged to nominate a referee who can write knowledgeably about them and comment authoritatively on their non-academic achievements. Paper Applications: Paper applications are due October 15, 2009. There is a fee of GB£35 associated with the application. For students filing a paper application the GB£35 must be made payable to 'The University of Cambridge" and drawn on a UK ban account. For those without access to a UK bank account, the best way to go about it is to go to a US bank (or any non-UK ban) and ask them to provide a banker's draft in GBP sterling. There will probably be a small fee but most banks in the US will offer this service. Applying Online: Alternatively, students can complete an online application. The application must be turned in by October 1, 2009 or two weeks before the paper deadline, or it will be deleted per University of Cambridge policy. Additionally the online application will be deleted if it is not submitted within three weeks of the initial registration. You may pay the required fee of GB£35 online with a credit card.
